Emergency Firmware Procedure is used for recovering unresponsive units ('de-bricking') or in order to fix a bugged firmware installation. After using this Procedure your player will have a functional 1.0.1 version firmware.
Installing: Before starting the procedure of emergency recovery - Please make sure you are using the AV RCA cables and not HDMI. Some TV HDCP protocols may cause problems to show the procedure on TV. (1)Download the file Xtreamer Emergency (2) Extract the file install.img (120 mb) (3) Copy the install.img file to the root of the USB flash memory or HDD inside Xtreamer. (4) Take out the unit out of the electricty power on the wall. wait 10 sec. Bring it back to the power (5) In Remote control, press Home -> 3 -> Power not any other sequence. No need to use power first. Any other sequence will fail and nothing will happen as the call for this procedure is initiated by HOME button pressed first..Keep it pressed + press 3 + press power until you see the process starts. If the firmware is not in the root of the USB the process will fail as the process seeks the .img in the USB root. Process Emergency upgrade should be visible on the screen if done correct. Please note:After intro screen, if system boots without further update procedure, re-try emergency firmware update while powering-off the unit. It means you did not do it in the correct way. PRESS the HOME first and after 3 and after POWER while the unit is OFF.

The next improvement for me will be the addition of a passive cooler. I'm waiting to see what the official solution from Xtreamer will be, then decide to get either that or the XSC by Tranquil PC.

TrueHD and DTS-HD MA bitstreaming is in the works. If you need BD menus you should buy a Blu-ray player.

Well how about this for the cons:
1. Ugly HD GUI because of the miniscule font and red underline on select, red colors all over the place and oh did I mention you can barely read the text? 51 inch screen and I have to squint?! 2. Wireless no longer works, now says 'DHCP not ready'. I am very dissappointed by the update if ONLY due to the fact that it's one step forward and two steps back. I don't know how some of these things get past beta testing. Props to the developing team for continued support but I'm waiting until the next FW update in December and if it's anything like this I'm jumping ship. While products like the WD Live don't have updates as frequently at least the product worked out of the box as advertised for most people.

But having said that, the problem does exist for some users regardless. Quote:

How come an Xt won't automatically reset defaults and reboot after firmware update? Why leave it to the user?

My router setup was fine in previous FW, yes I reset the Xtreamer so now what? Some users?? Have your read the forums? Quirks suggests isolated, unreplicatable issues and one quick look at their forums can easily tell you that's not the case. The thing that annoys me about the Xtreamer is that it's yet to meet the advertised features and fixes one thing and breaks another. There is NO bug tracking system, there's no support on site to say: 'Small fonts, yes, it's an issue that will be resolved in the next FW update'. You're just left to wonder. Maybe if they had spent less time coming up with a iPhone remote and more time fixing the existing issues a lot more people would be appreciative.

Even HDTV users would benefit from being able to increase the font size (as I would like to do as well).
Obviously, the 'no DHCP found' is a bug in the firmware, but again I'll reiterate my point regarding the relatively small group of beta testers. Though they may all have different routers to test wireless (which some reported as still being problematic, others reported as being improved), they will not cover the vast swath of routers and configurations that end user will have. They're more technically inclined, and there's a reason why not everyone can be a beta tester. That's not talking down to you bisha. The end user shouldn't have to jump through hoops I agree, but those who do are not limited to only the Xteamer. There's a reason why AVSForum exists, with forum topics from everything to display devices to DVD players to audio receivers to digital media servers, and it isn't just to talk about how cool new products are. Yes, I have read the other forums, and there is a small percentage who are experiencing the no DHCP issue. Some have resolved the problem by doing the steps I suggested above, others have not. The issue will be amplified on forums where people generally mostly write about problems requesting solutions or talk about things they don't like. If everybody who is happy wrote in it would far outweigh those who are complaining about a specific issue. Quirks/bugs, it's all semantics. Bottom line is that some have no issues with WiFi, others do. Whether we call it isolated or not still means that it needs to be addressed in future fw updates, especially when WiFi worked fine in earlier firmware for some, and now doesn't in fw 2.0+. For me, streaming over WiFi is perfectly fine in 802.11g, in fact I can 'almost' stream 1080p two floors up with a '60' signal (but alas I'll need to upgrade to 802.11n to do that without the occasional stutter). By the way, did you try the suggestions above, or did you make any progress? Another thing to try is try setting your Xtreamer to output another resolution (720p for example) and see if WiFi works. Believe it or not, this worked for some, even after then changing back to 1080.

If everybody who is happy wrote in it would far outweigh those who are complaining about a specific issue. By the way, did you try the suggestions above, or did you make any progress? Another thing to try is try setting your Xtreamer to output another resolution (720p for example) and see if WiFi works. Believe it or not, this worked for some, even after then changing back to 1080. I'll repeat here what I posted in the Xtreamer forums, people get worked up when their concerns start to echo rather than receive a response: The frustrating part is yet again lack of communication. This has nothing to do with the firmware, what it fixes or breaks, nothing to do with features or lack thereof. It's all about open and direct communication. I don't see any official statements from Xtreamer support saying: 'Dear customers, here are the issues some of you are raising. We believe that they are legitimate and we are actively working to address these in the next FW release. In the mean time, other users have reported that XYZ works as an alternative. We apologize for the inconvenience and rest assured that we are listening to your issues and concerns.' That statement would reassure some and calm others but for some reason Xtreamer just can't swallow that pill. Personally I solved my problem by reversing the configuration of my connections. I swapped locations for my router and Xtreamer wifi so that now the router (along with cable modem) are by the Xtreamer (hooked up via ethernet cord) while the Xtreamer wifi antenna is hooked up to my PC. Avoiding plugging the wifi antenna directly to the Xtreamer was the solution. Everything up to 720p streams just fine via wireless G. We'll see what surprise firmwares they churn out before the next big one in December.

Glad to see you found a temporary solution. Fortunately, the Xtreamer developers continue to work on the firmware and I am confident that future releases will address many of the issues that some users are coming across. For myself I'm happy with the new firmware as it is since I have virtually no problems at all with WiFi.
For those whose WiFi is working fine with the Xtreamer, please post your setup (router and model, router firmware, wireless settings). Here is mine: Router: Linksys WRT54G v1.1 Router Firmware: v4.21.1 Wireless Network Mode: G-Only Wireless Channel: 6 (2.437GHZ) Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal, AES Xt Distance: 2 Floors Up Signal Strength: ~60 Stutter-Free 720p Streaming: Yes Stutter-Free 1080p Streaming: Only with material that is under 10mbps, otherwise no. Most common suggestions to get WiFi working: * Reset to defaults and reboot after firmware upgrade * For 802.11n, do not use TKIP+AES (Try only WPA2 Personal and AES) * Use USB extension cable to reposition the WiFi adapter closer to the router's location * Install emergency firmware, reset and install the latest 2.0+ firmware * Reset router to factory defaults, try to connect with no security first * Some have reported that trying a different output resolution (such as 720p) fixes WiFi It also may help to ensure that your router has the latest firmware. Some HDTVs require a firmware update as well, so check into that also if you're having video problems.

Hello
with the 1.x.x.x firmware, I had no problem with them, but since the 2.0 (and also with the 2.0.1), the xtreamer crash when I try to play a PLS file: I have a black screen, then it comes back to the main menu and everything is disconnected (no more WIFI, no more USB key connected detected, etc..). This is a PLS file through the network (that worked with the 1.x.x.x version). I tried to play a simple MP3 through the network and it works fine. Is that a known issue? Thanks for the help David

Lastly, you're more likely to find others with your issue or a more timely response if you go to the Xtreamer forums

I wish they would fix their HDMI implementation. The 2.0.0 and 2.0.1 have gone backwards for me. Only resolution available for me is 480P and now I have the purple screen. The XT is connected to an Anthe D2v pre/pro.

Did you try connecting the Xtreamer directly to the TV to see if that gets rid of the purple screen?

Thanks. David

I have a Pioneer PRO-150 and no I've not connected the XT directly to it and nor will I. The problem is the inproper color space being pushed by the XT. I've documented this over on their site. I can correct it by forcing it on the Anthem. I've removed the XT from my main system, it'll go back to my kids system in the office. Too many issues in my main system: network performance, HDMI handshake, color space..

And how do you correct it by forcing it on your Anthem? Thanks.

It will change it after the handshake has occurred. I force it in the Anthem to be what I want it to be. The Anthem can do this by source, so I can resolve my purple issue, but it's still a bug. My biggest problem is only having 480P for a resolution and all my HD recordings shutter during play back over my wired connection. I also connect everything to the Anthem and not the panel.
